You sniffled lightly as you watched Germany zip up his green bag. It was also known as his army bag. He had gotten a letter a while ago and it stated he had to go to war and leave for at least a year. He put his bag on a chair with his army uniform and looked at you. He noticed your small tears and wiped them away. He was leaving early in the morning and you wouldn't be able to see him when he leaves so this was your last chance to say goodbye.
"Be strong alright (country name)?" He asked. You shook your head.
"B-But I can't be strong without you. Y-Your my papa!" You said as you wrapped your arms around his neck. He picked you up and rocked you back and forth.
"I know but someone has to be strong here and it obviously isn't going to be Prussia or Italy." He said causing you to giggle. "See, I need you to protect them while I'm gone. Can you do zhat for me?" He asked as you leaned your head back to look at him. You sniffled and nodded your head. He smiled and kissed your forehead.
"How long are you going to be away?" You asked as you leaned your head back into his shoulder.
"I don't know. Zhey said it could be at least a year." He said sounding sad. "But we can write letters." He said sounding happier.
"I can't write very good yet." You said.
"Zhen Prussia, Italy, or Japan will write for you and you will tell zhem vhat you vant to say." He responded. You smiled and nodded your head.
"Okay." He carried you into your room and placed you onto your bed. You got under the covers and Germany walked began to walk to the door. "P-Papa?" You asked nervously.
"Hm?" Germany turned back to look at you.
"Will you sleep with me tonight?" You asked. Germany smiled lightly, even though it was hard to tell in the dark you could tell he was. He walked back to your bed and got under the covers with you. You smiled and hugged him as he hugged you back.
"Guten Nacht papa." You said as you rested the side of your head on his chest.
"Guten Nacht mein Kinder."

~The next morning~

When you woke up the next morning Germany wasn't with you but you heard people talking downstairs. You quietly got out of bed and walked to the stairs where you saw Germany talking to Prussia and Italy.
"Und if anyzhing bad happens to her I vill kill you." He threatened Prussia.
"Cal down vest! I vouldn't let anyzhing happen to your kinder." He said smiling.
"Gut." Germany responded as a car honked it's horn outside.
"Zhat's your ride." Prussia said sadly. Germany nodded and got up as Prussia did the same. You walked down the stairs quietly but a floorboard squeaked loudly and caught their attention.
"Vhat are you doing up so early frau?" Prussia asked as he scooped you up. You shrugged as he carried you back to Germany. You gave him a final hug and kiss on the cheek and Germany did the same. Prussia gave Germany a hug who accepted it, just this once. Germany opened the door and waved goodbye and you did the same.
"Come back home soon papa." You said as he smiled at you and left.

~1 month later~

You were waiting by the mail slot as you heard the familiar sound of the mail fall in. You grabbed the mail and scanned through it and found one addressed to you. You smiled and pulled it out of the bunch and brought it to the kitchen table where Prussia was eating a bowl of cereal.
"Uncle Prussia! Papa wrote back!" You said beaming as you handed him the letter. He smiled and opened it for you. He handed you the paper but you looked at it for a minute. "I can't read Uncle Prussia." You said as he laughed his weird laugh.
"I forgot! Alright come on." He said as he placed you on his lap and unfolded the letter. "Alight it says, 'Dear (country name) and Prussia, I hope you two are doing vell and I hope Prussia hasn't done anything out of line- Hey!" Prussia shouted as he read that line. You giggled as he started reading again. "I assume Prussia said 'Hey!' at that last part but I'm not taking it back. Stupid Germany... Anyvay I really miss you two, somehow I even miss you bruder. It gets cold here at night but it's not zhat bad. I hope you have continued being strong for me (country name). This is as much as I can write right now so I vill have to end it here. Signed, Ludwig Beilschmidt AKA Germany." You smiled as Prussia finished reading the letter. He folded it up and handed it back to you.
"Can we write him back today?" You asked happily. Prussia nodded and you cheered as you ran upstairs to your room. You placed the letter in a small drawer and closed it gently. You ran back downstairs to tell Prussia your letter.

~6 months later~

You were laying upside down on the couch watching TV with Prussia, who was sitting the same way as you. You kept looking at mail slot and waited for the mail man. Prussia noticed you looking over and smiled.
"I'm sure he has a letter coming soon." He said and you nodded lightly. You heard a knock at the door and looked at Prussia. "NOT IT!" He shouted as he laughed. You laughed and got out of your upside down position and walked t the door. You opened it and saw someone facing the streets. They were dressed in a green uniform. Just like the army's...
"Papa?" You asked. The man turned around and you saw his blue eyes and slicked back blonde hair.
"PAPA!" You shouted as you gave him a big hug, which is when you noticed his arm was wrapped in a cast. Prussia ran in behind you and gasped loudly.
"VEST!" He shouted as he gave him a big hug also.
"What happened to your arm?" You asked. He chuckled and ruffled your hair.
"Vhat happened to you! You got so much bigger since the last time I saw you!" He said as he hugged you with one arm. He was right actually. The last time he saw you you looked like you were 8 and now you looked like you were 12. You guessed it was the odd growth of Countries. You smiled and walked inside with Prussia and Germany walking in too. Germany sat down on the couch while you and Prussia sat on both sides of him.
"But seriously what happened to your arm?" You asked.
"I broke it vhile ve vere on zhe battlefield, vhivh is vhy I got to come home early." He explained simply. You heard the mail come in and you smiled as you got it.
"Well I guess I don't have to read this to know if you're okay." You said as you held up the letter he sent. Germany laughed and you tucked the letter into one of your pockets.
'But I don't care. I'm going to keep it.'
